# Delete and undo

How to delete one item or many, why Vault items ask first, how to undo a delete while the toast is still up, and what Clear all history removes.

Updated 10 September 2026 · Every platform

## [Deleting one item](#delete-one)

Three ways, all the same thing:

* The bin in the row's actions. Hover the row, or select it with the arrow keys, and it is the leftmost button, set apart from the rest so you do not hit it by mistake.
* **Delete** at the bottom of the row's right-click menu.
* The bin at the bottom left of the [edit screen](https://relic.space/help/edit-an-item).

An item that is only in your history goes quietly. There is no dialog, because you have hundreds of these and stopping to ask about each one would be worse than the mistake:

## [Undoing a delete](#undo)

Press **Undo** on the toast, or press Ctrl \+ Z while it is still on screen. The toast stays for about five seconds. The item comes back whole, picture or file included.

Once the toast has gone, so has the undo. Ctrl \+ Z goes back to being ordinary text undo in the search box.

## [Vault items ask first](#vault-items)

An item in your [Vault](https://relic.space/help/the-vault) is there because you put it there, so deleting one is deliberate. Relic asks:

A confirm dialog titled Delete from Vault? The body reads: This permanently removes Boarding pass, Condor Air from your vault. This can't be undone. Two buttons at the bottom right: Cancel, and a red Delete. The confirm you get for a kept item. The name in the middle is the item's own title.

Say yes and Relic confirms with Removed from Vault. There is no Undo on this one. The dialog was the undo.

If you only want it out of the Vault and not gone, click the gold gem on the row instead. The item drops back into your history and expires like anything else.

## [Deleting several at once](#delete-several)

Select the rows (see [picking several items at once](https://relic.space/help/multi-select)) and press **Delete** in the bar. If none of them are kept, they go straight away. If any of them are, Relic asks about the batch:

A confirm dialog titled Delete 4 items? The body reads: This includes items saved to your Vault. You can undo for a few seconds afterwards. Cancel and a red Delete button at the bottom right. The batch confirm. Unlike a single Vault item, this one can be undone.

Either way the whole batch comes back together if you undo it:

## [Clearing all history](#clear-all)

To empty the whole thing at once, open Settings›Vault and storage:

Clear all history

Deletes every unsaved history item on this device and your synced devices. Saved (Vault) items are kept.

Settings › Vault and storage › Clear all history: button: Clear….

It counts what it is about to remove and asks, with a title like _Delete 500 history items?_ and the line _Everything not saved to your Vault is deleted from this device and, as it syncs, from your other devices. This can't be undone._ The button to go ahead says **Delete history**.

* Kept items are not touched. This is only your history.
* There is no undo. The Undo toast is for one delete, not for this.
* The sentence about your other devices only appears when this computer is signed in to sync. Without sync it is only this device.

If what you want is a smaller history rather than no history, set [Settings › Vault and storage › Keep recent history](https://relic.space/help/settings-vault-and-storage#keep-recent) instead and let Relic trim the oldest items for you.

## [Your other devices](#other-devices)

A delete travels. Relic keeps a note that the item is gone and sends that note up with everything else, so the next time each of your other devices syncs, the item disappears there too. A device that is switched off catches up when it comes back.

Undo puts the item back the same way, so your other devices end up with it again. See [how sync works](https://relic.space/help/how-sync-works).
