# Plans and limits

Every number on the free, Pro and Max plans: item size, storage, saved items, history, devices and share links, and what happens when you reach one.

## [What each plan includes](#the-plans)

Every plan is the same app: automatic capture, search, sync between your devices, the AI that runs on your own machine, and the same encryption. What the paid plans buy is room. This is the only help page that names prices, and they are in US dollars.

| | Free | Pro | Max |
| ------------------- | ------------ | ------------------------- | -------------------------- |
| Price | Free | $7 a month, or $60 a year | $12 a month, or $96 a year |
| Largest single item | 2 MB | 100 MB | 500 MB |
| Storage | 250 MB | 25 GB | 250 GB |
| Saved items (Vault) | 100 | No limit | No limit |
| History kept | The last 100 | You choose | You choose |
| Devices | 3 | 10 | No limit |
| Share links at once | 10 | 100 | No limit |
| Largest share link | 5 MB | 50 MB | 50 MB |

The plan you are on is shown on a computer at [Settings › Sync and account › Plan](https://relic.space/help/settings-sync-and-account#plan), and on a phone at the top of the settings sheet.

## [What the numbers mean](#what-the-numbers-mean)

* **Saved items (Vault)** are the items you keep on purpose. They never expire on any plan, and the free plan holds 100 of them. See [the Vault](https://relic.space/help/the-vault).
* **History kept** is the rolling window of things you copied but did not save. The free plan keeps the last 100 and drops the oldest as new ones arrive. On a paid plan nothing ages out unless you ask it to, with [Settings › Vault and storage › Keep recent history](https://relic.space/help/settings-vault-and-storage#keep-recent). See [how much history is kept](https://relic.space/help/history-limit).
* **Largest single item** is the biggest thing one item can carry. A file bigger than the cap is captured as a path to the file instead of its contents. Anything else over the cap stays on the device that made it and reports _Too large for your plan_ when it tries to sync.
* **Storage** counts every byte your account holds on the server: text, images, files and attachments. The app shows what you have used at [Settings › Vault and storage › Storage used](https://relic.space/help/settings-vault-and-storage#used). See [storage](https://relic.space/help/storage).
* **Devices** counts each computer, phone and browser session that is signed in. See [your devices](https://relic.space/help/your-devices).
* **Share links** are the links you hand to someone else. The number is how many can be live at once, so links that have expired or been used up do not count against it.

## [Running your own server](#self-hosting)

A server you run yourself has no plan, no price and none of these limits. It runs the same code as the hosted service, it needs no account, and the apps connect to it the same way. What it costs is the machine it lives on and your time. See [self-hosting](https://relic.space/self-host) and [connecting the app to your own server](https://relic.space/help/self-host-connect).

## [When you reach a limit](#at-a-limit)

Nothing is thrown away when you hit a limit. The app tells you what stopped and what to do about it.

**The Vault is full.** New captures still land in your history, they just do not get saved, and a banner appears in Settings:

Vault is full. Free up space or upgrade to keep saving items.Dismiss

* **An item will not sync.** The row is marked as not synced, and the reason reads _Vault is full on your plan_ with _Free up space or upgrade, then retry._ under it, or _Too large for your plan_ with _Upgrade your plan to sync items this large._
* **One device too many.** Adding a device past the limit opens a _Device limit reached_ dialog that says _Your plan is full. Remove a device to connect this one, or upgrade your plan for more devices._ It lists your devices with a Remove button beside each one.
* **A share link is too big.** Sharing an item over the per-link size says _Too large to share on your plan._

On an iPhone or iPad

The App Store build states the same facts and stops there. It has no upgrade button, so none of these messages mention upgrading. Change your plan on a computer or in a browser.

## [If a paid plan ends](#if-a-plan-ends)

Your data stays. Nothing is deleted when a plan lapses or you cancel. The account goes back to the free limits, and anything above them becomes read-only: you can still open it, search it, export it and delete it, but new items stop being saved until you free up space or start the plan again.

If a payment fails, the plan keeps working for about a week while the card is retried. If it does lapse after that, Relic sends one email to say so and to say that your data is safe. If anything about your own account does not match this, write to [support](https://relic.space/support) before you delete anything.

## [Where to manage your plan](#manage)

* On a computer, open Settings›Sync and account and look at [the Billing row](https://relic.space/help/settings-sync-and-account#billing). On a paid plan its _Manage_ button opens your billing page in a browser, where you can change plan, change the card, read invoices or cancel. On the free plan the row offers the paid plans instead.
* In a browser, sign in at [relic.space/account](https://relic.space/account), which does the same job.
* On your own server there is nothing to manage. The Plan row reads _Self-hosted_.

Deleting your account is a different thing from cancelling, and it cannot be undone. Cancel the plan first, then delete the account.
