# Your vault in a browser

relic.space/vault opens your vault on a computer with no Relic installed. Sign in, enter your vault passphrase, and search, add, edit and delete in the tab.

Updated 10 September 2026 · Web

## [Opening it](#open-it)

Go to [relic.space/vault](https://relic.space/vault)in any browser and sign in with your Relic account. This is the same vault your apps sync with. Use it on a machine where you cannot install anything, or on someone else's computer.

After signing in the page says **Unlock your vault** and asks for your **Vault passphrase**. Press **Unlock** and it works for a few seconds turning your passphrase into the key. The passphrase never leaves the tab, and neither does the key: the server hands over sealed bytes and your browser opens them.

* **Remember this device for 30 days** skips the passphrase next time on this browser. Leave it off on a shared computer.
* **Lock the vault** forgets the key without signing you out. **Sign out** does both.
* If you have forgotten the passphrase, you can paste your [recovery kit](https://relic.space/help/recovery-kit) here and set a new one.

It only works with sync on

The web vault reads what is on the server. A device that has never signed in keeps its items to itself, so nothing from it shows up here. See [How sync works](https://relic.space/help/how-sync-works).

## [What you can do there](#what-you-can-do)

You can write here, so this is a full vault rather than a window onto one. Anything you write is sealed in the tab before it goes up, and your other devices pick it up as an ordinary item within seconds.

* **Add** by typing in the bar at the top, which reads _Add to your vault…_ and takes Ctrl+Enter.
* **Paste** anywhere on the page and what you pasted becomes an item, text or image.
* **Drop files** onto the page to add them with their contents attached.
* **Edit**an item's title, note and tags, the same three fields the app gives you.
* **Keep** an item in your Vault with the gem, and see how many kept items you have.
* **Copy** an item back out, **save** a file or an image, and **share** an item as a link.
* **Delete** takes two presses. The first arms it and the button changes to _Really delete? Deletes everywhere_, which is the honest description: it deletes on every device.

**Refresh** pulls again from the server. There is no live connection here, so press it if you have just captured something on another device and want to see it now.

## [Searching](#searching)

The search box works the way it does in the app, and it searches titles, notes, tags and the text of your items at once. Words rank; the operators filter.

"exact words"

Only items with that phrase in them.

\-word

Leave out anything containing that word.

tag:travel

Only items carrying that tag.

kind:image

Only that kind of item: text, image or file.

is:kept

Only what is in your Vault.

has:file

Only items with something attached.

before:2026-06-01

Only items older than that day.

after:2026-06-01

Only items newer than that day.

Dates here have to be written out as year, month and day. The full list of search words, and the ones that only the app understands, is on [the search syntax page](https://relic.space/help/search-syntax).

## [What a browser cannot do](#limits)

A web page is not allowed to watch your clipboard, and it has no room for the models the app runs on your own machine. So a handful of things are missing on purpose.

* **It does not capture what you copy.** Nothing lands in your vault unless you add, paste or drop it yourself. Capture is what the desktop app is for.
* **No searching by meaning.** The web vault matches words, tags and dates. Searching for the idea rather than the wording is a desktop feature.
* **It cannot read the text inside your images.** Screenshots the app has already read stay searchable here, because that text travels with the item. New images added in the browser are not read.
* **No everyday date words.** Typing _last week_ in the app filters by date. Here, use _before:_ and _after:_ with a real date.
* **No undo on a delete.** The app lets you take a delete back. The browser asks you twice instead, and once it is gone it is gone everywhere.

Everything else carries across. When you get back to your own machine the app has the items you added, and the edits you made in the tab are already there.
