How it stays private

Your note is encrypted in your browser with AES-256 before anything is sent. The secret key is placed in the part of the link after the # symbol, which browsers never send to a server, so we only ever store an unreadable blob. When the link is opened, that blob is handed over once and immediately deleted, so the note cannot be read twice.

Is a private note secure?

Yes. Your note is encrypted in your browser with AES-256-GCM before anything is sent. The secret key is placed in the part of the link after the # symbol, which browsers never transmit, so the server only ever stores an unreadable blob and never sees your key or your text.

What does burn after reading mean?

The note can be opened exactly once. The moment the link is opened, the stored blob is handed over and immediately deleted from the server, so it cannot be read a second time. Reloading will not bring it back.

How do I send a self-destructing note?

Type your secret, pick how long it can sit unread (1 hour, 1 day, or 7 days), and create the link. Share the whole link, including the part after the #, with your recipient. Whoever opens it first reads it, and then it is gone.

Can you or anyone else read my note?

No. Because the encryption key lives only in the link fragment and never reaches the server, we store nothing but ciphertext. If you lose the link there is no recovery, and if it expires unopened it is deleted with no copy kept.

How does this relate to Relic?
