Know how hard your writing is to read

This readability checker runs two well-known formulas on your text. Flesch Reading Ease gives a score from roughly 0 to 100, where higher is easier, and the Flesch-Kincaid grade level estimates the US school grade a reader needs to follow along. Both lean on the same idea: shorter sentences and shorter words read easier. We estimate syllables by counting vowel groups, so the numbers are a solid guide rather than a perfect measurement, and nothing you paste ever leaves your browser.

Save the version that finally scored well

Tightening a paragraph until it reads cleanly takes real effort, and it is maddening to lose that version to the next round of edits. Relic keeps an end-to-end encrypted, searchable history of everything you copy across every device, so the draft that finally hit the right grade level is always recoverable. Checking readability is free. Keeping your best rewrite is the part Relic handles.

Frequently asked questions

What does the readability checker measure?

It scores your text with standard formulas, including Flesch Reading Ease and Flesch-Kincaid grade level, which are based on sentence length and syllables per word. You also get word, sentence, and syllable counts.

What is a good readability score?

For general audiences, aim for a Flesch Reading Ease of 60 or higher, roughly 8th to 9th grade level. News writing usually sits around 60 to 70, and most successful web copy lands near there too.

How do I make my writing easier to read?

Shorten sentences, swap long words for short ones, and break up dense paragraphs. Run the check again as you edit, watching the grade level drop is a surprisingly good editing loop.

Is my text uploaded when I check it?

No. The analysis runs entirely in your browser, so drafts, contracts, or anything sensitive never leave your device.
