How do I put a list in alphabetical order?

Does the sorting care about uppercase and lowercase?
No, it sorts case-insensitively, so "apple", "Apple", and "APPLE" all land in the same spot rather than the capitalized words getting bunched separately at the top. This is almost always what you want for names and everyday lists.
Will it sort numbers in the right order?
It sorts alphabetically, character by character, not numerically, so "item 10" comes before "item 2" because 1 sorts before 2. For plain words and names this is exactly right; if you have a numbered list, pad the numbers (02, 10) so they line up the way you expect.
What is a practical use for alphabetizing a list?
