Copy text hearts and emoji hearts in every color, one click each.
How to type these symbols
| Symbol | Name | Windows (Alt code) | Mac | HTML |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ♥ | Black heart suit (text) | Alt+3 | - | ♥ |
| ♡ | White heart outline | Alt+9825 | - | ♡ |
| ❤ | Heavy black heart | Alt+10084 | - | ❤ |
| ❣ | Heart exclamation | Alt+10083 | - | ❣ |
Windows Alt codes need the numeric keypad with Num Lock on. No keypad? Copying from this page is faster anyway.
Text hearts versus emoji hearts
The hearts in the first row are plain text characters: they take on your font's color and weight, sit neatly in a sentence, and never turn into a platform's emoji artwork unless an app forces the conversion. The second row are true emoji, rendered as full-color art by each platform. Copy whichever look you are after.
Where people paste them
Usernames and gamertags (the classic ♥), Instagram bios, playlists, birthday messages, tattoos-in-progress notes, and the odd commit message. Because each heart is a single character, they survive character limits better than most decorations.
Frequently asked questions
How do I type a heart symbol with my keyboard?
On Windows, Alt+3 on the numeric keypad gives the classic ♥. Most other heart styles have no keyboard shortcut, which is why a click-to-copy page is the practical answer.
What is the difference between the text heart ♥ and the emoji heart?
♥ (U+2665) is a plain text character that inherits your font color, while the emoji red heart renders as colored artwork. Some apps convert one into the other; if you want the plain look, paste the text heart and avoid the emoji keyboard.
What does <3 mean?
It is the ASCII way of drawing a heart on its side, used since before emoji existed. Many chat apps auto-convert <3 into a heart character.
Do the different heart colors mean anything?
Informally, yes: red for love, black for dark humor or grief, white for purity or remembrance, purple and the others mostly for aesthetics. There is no official meaning, context rules.
