Gentle, Balanced and Fast
The row is in Settings›Search and AI, under the AI switches. Balanced is the default.
- Gentle
- Takes the smallest bite of the computer. Pick it on an old machine, or one that is always busy with something else.
- Balanced
- The middle setting, and what Relic uses until you say otherwise.
- Fast
- Gets through a big backlog sooner. It competes with whatever you are doing, so a heavy job elsewhere may feel slower while it runs.
On Gentle and Balanced the work also sits behind whatever you have in front of you, so it gives way when you need the machine. On Fast it does not.
Nothing about the result changes. The same tags and the same titles come out at all three settings. You are only choosing how much of the computer they are allowed to cost.
When the work runs
- In the background, whenever Relic is running, including while it sits in the tray. Quit the app and it stops.
- Shortly after you capture or keep something, a few items at a time.
- After the one-time download finishes, when it works through everything you already had.
Turning on a new switch, like Describe items, starts another pass over your items, which is the other time you will see a long queue.
How to tell when it is done
Look under the smart tags switch. While there is a queue, a line there counts it down, for example tagging 1,204 items…. When that line is gone, Relic has caught up.
Individual rows say Analyzing… while the models are on them. A backlog of a few thousand items on Gentle can take a while, and it is fine to leave it: Relic picks up where it left off next time you open the app.
