What the Vault is

Everything you copy lands in your history. History is a passing thing. Relic lets go of the oldest items to stay within the limit you set, and within the one your plan sets.

The Vault is the part you kept on purpose. A kept item never expires and is never removed to make room. It is the answer to "I will want this again in six months".

A gold gem at the right of a row means the item is in your Vault.

Ways to keep something

There are six. Use whichever is nearest.

• The gem on a row. Hover a row, or select it with the arrow keys, and the actions appear at its right. Click the gem. It fills gold and Relic says so.
• The shortcut. Ctrl + Shift + W keeps the last thing you captured, without opening the window. See keep the last thing you copied.
• Keep in the bulk bar. Select several rows and press Keep. See picking several items at once.
• Save to Vault when you write one. The composer has a Save to Vault tick box next to its Create button.
• Auto-save on a phone. On by default, so anything you share into Relic from your phone is kept.
• Save everything on a computer. Off by default. Turn it on and nothing you copy ever expires.

The first two say the same thing when they land:

The gem is a toggle. Click it again on a kept item and Relic says Removed from Vault. Keeping several at once says 4 promoted to Vault, or Already in your Vault if they were all kept already.

The two automatic ways are settings:

Looking at just your Vault

The switch above the list picks what you are looking through. All is everything Relic has. Vault is only the items you kept. Search, tags, the date filter and sorting all work the same in both.

Snippet triggers follow the switch too. With Vault on, only kept snippets jump to the top.

Taking something out

Clicking the gem again drops the item back into your history. It is still there, it just expires like anything else now.

Deleting a kept item is different. Because you kept it on purpose, Relic asks first, with a dialog titled Delete from Vault? and the line This permanently removes "…" from your vault. This can't be undone. There is no undo afterwards. See delete and undo.

How many you can keep

The free plan holds a limited number of kept items. Settings shows where you stand, as a count against your limit:

When you are at the limit, Settings shows a banner:

A capture that wanted to be kept is still captured. It goes to your history instead and says so, so nothing is ever lost to a full Vault:

To make room, click the gem on kept items you no longer need, or delete them. Kept items also count towards your storage, which Settings › Vault and storage › Storage used tracks.
