Why you would
Relic keeps what you copy, which is the point of it, and there are a few programs where that is the last thing you want. A password manager. Your bank. The internal tool at work that shows customer records.
The blocklist is a list of programs Relic pretends not to see. A copy made in one of them is never captured, never written down, and never syncs anywhere. There is nothing to delete afterwards because nothing was kept.
Add an app to the list
- Open Settings and go to Capture
Click the gear in the Relic window, then Capture in the sidebar. Settings›Capture›Never capture from is the last row in the pane.
- Have the app open
Relic builds the list from what is running on this computer at that moment, so start the app you want to block before you go looking for it.
- Click Add app…
Add app… opens a panel headed Open right now. Each line shows the program and the title of the window it has open, so you can tell two browsers apart. The refresh arrow beside the buttons re-reads the list, for when you started the app after opening the panel.
- Click the app
Click it and it moves up into the row as a chip. Copies from that program stop reaching Relic straight away. No restart, no confirmation.
- Click Done
Add as many as you like first. Done just closes the panel.
On Windows there is also a Browse… button next to Done. It opens a file picker called Choose a program to never capture from, which is how you block something that is not running, or something whose window Relic cannot see. Pick its program file and Relic takes the name from it.
If nothing shows in the panel, Relic says so: Nothing else is open. Use Browse to pick a program file. on Windows, and Nothing else is open. Open the app you want to block, then refresh. on a Mac and on Linux.
Taking an app off the list
Each blocked app is a chip in the row with a small × after its name. Click the × and it is gone. Relic starts capturing from that app again with the very next copy.
What Relic skips already
Most password managers do not need to be on the list. When they put a password on the clipboard they also put a marker on it that says "do not keep this", and Relic honours that marker on Windows, on a Mac and on Linux. The copy never enters Relic in the first place.
The blocklist is for the apps that do not mark their copies, and for the ones where you would rather not rely on it.
- The save and annotate shortcut is not blocked. Press Ctrl + Shift + E in a blocked app and Relic does save it. You asked for that one on purpose, so it wins.
- Blocked copies are silent. Relic never tells you it skipped something. See what Relic never captures.

To stop capture everywhere for a while rather than in one app, use Pause capture.
