Quick paste 1 to 5

How the five keys work

Five shortcuts paste your five most recent items by position. Number 1 is the newest thing in Relic, number 2 the one before it, down to number 5. You do not have to open anything: the item is put on the clipboard and pasted into whatever app you are typing in.

• Ctrl + Shift + 1 pastes the newest item.
• Ctrl + Shift + 2 pastes the second newest item.
• Ctrl + Shift + 3 pastes the third newest item.
• Ctrl + Shift + 4 pastes the fourth newest item.
• Ctrl + Shift + 5 pastes the fifth newest item.

Newest means newest across every device you sync, not just this one. A screenshot you took on your phone a moment ago is number 1 on your laptop as soon as it has synced.

The five keys are on out of the box. They are ordinary shortcuts, not one of the power features, so there is no switch to turn them on first.

Paste from your phone on your laptop

1. Put the thing into Relic on your phone
   Share an address into Relic from your phone. It becomes the newest item in your vault and reaches your other devices a few seconds later.
2. Click where you want it on your laptop
   On your laptop, click into the field you want to fill. Leave the Relic window closed.
3. Press Ctrl + Shift + 1
   Press Ctrl + Shift + 1. The address goes in where your cursor is. Nothing opens and nothing flashes.
4. Use 2 to 5 for the ones before it
   Ctrl + Shift + 2 pastes the item before it, and so on up to Ctrl + Shift + 5.

Changing or clearing a key

Each of the five has its own row in Settings›General›Shortcuts. Press Change and press the keys you want. Clearing a row switches that one off and leaves the other four alone.

When nothing pastes

Relic tells you why with a small notification instead of leaving you guessing.

• There is no item that far back. A new vault with two items in it has nothing on keys 3, 4 and 5.
• The item is not here yet. The picture or file is still coming down from your other device, or you are offline. Try again once the sync chip says everything is up to date.
• The keystroke could not be sent. On a Mac without the Accessibility permission, and on Linux under Wayland, Relic can put the item on the clipboard but cannot press the keys for you. It says so once, and you press Ctrl + V yourself. See Paste directly on select.

Pasting this way never turns into a new item in your history, so using the keys does not push your own items down the list. If you want to choose rather than count, use the mini picker. To paste several things in order, use the paste stack.
