Sync and account is where this computer says who it belongs to, what it is called, and which other devices are in the vault with it. Most of the pane is hidden until you connect. Every row below is drawn the way the app draws it.
The connection line
The heading at the top of the pane is one of three lines, and it tells you at a glance where your items are going.
- Not connected. Everything stays on this computer. Under it: Link this device to your vault to sync across computers. The only button is Connect…, which asks whether you want Relic's servers or your own.
- Connected, end-to-end encrypted. Signed in to a Relic account.
- Connected to your own server, end-to-end encrypted. Pointed at a server you run.
Once connected, the small line underneath names your account email (or the address of your own server) and says when this computer last synced, for example Last synced 3 minutes ago · syncs automatically.. Before the first sync of a session it reads This device syncs to your vault. Captures replicate within ~8s.
Three buttons sit at the right of the row.
- Sync now pushes and pulls straight away instead of waiting. It reads Syncing… while it runs. Relic syncs on its own, so this is for when you are watching.
- Switch account signs this computer out and takes you to the sign-in screen for another account. It does not show on a computer connected to your own server.
- Disconnect stops sync and removes the vault key from this computer.
Both of the last two ask first, because both of them need your passphrase or your recovery kit to undo.
Switch account? says the same thing and adds that you then sign in to another account. Your local history stays on this computer either way.
Items from before this sign-in
If you sign this computer in to a different account than it had before, the old account's items are not uploaded. They are tucked away out of your history and a row appears here headed Items from before this sign-in, telling you how many there are and that nothing has been uploaded. You choose what happens to them.
- Upload all brings them back into your history and uploads them to the account you are now signed in to, counting against its storage. It asks first.
- Keep them tucked away stops the row asking. The items stay on the computer, hidden, and come back on their own if you sign back in to that account. The row stays as Tucked-away items so you can change your mind.
- Delete from device erases them from this computer. It asks first. The account they came from is not touched, so any device still signed in to that one keeps its copy.
Device name
The name that goes on everything this computer captures, so a row in the window on your phone tells you where it came from. It starts as the computer's own name. Click the field, type, and click away to save it. This is the one row on the pane that is there whether or not you are connected.
Devices
Manage opens the list of everything in your vault: what each device is called, when it was last seen, and a way to remove one. Remove a device you no longer have, or one you do not recognise. This row appears only while you are connected.
Add a device
This row is only there when this computer is connected to your own server. A server on your home network has an address like an IP and a port, and typing that on a phone is miserable, so Show QR puts it on screen instead.
The dialog is headed Add a device and says: Scan this in the Relic app on your other device (Add this device → Use your own server → Scan QR), then enter the same passphrase. The address is printed under the code, and Done closes it.
Security
Open takes you to a screen of its own for the things you rarely do and want to be sure about: changing your vault passphrase, and looking at your recovery kit. On a Relic account it also has changing your email, signing out everywhere, and deleting the account. It appears only while you are connected.
Plan and billing
Plan is one line saying what this account is on. A computer connected to your own server reads Self-hosted and there is nothing under it, since the storage is yours.
Billing depends on the plan. On Free the row is a heading offering to upgrade, with the options next to it. On a paid plan it is a line reading Manage your plan, payment method, invoices, or cancel. and a Manage button, which opens the billing portal in your browser. If something goes wrong, the reason appears in red under the row.
