Getting Relic on your phone
Relic is on Google Play, listed under the id relic.space.app. Install it, sign in with the same account you use on your computer, and unlock with your vault passphrase. Everything you have already saved is there once the first sync finishes.
The phone reads the same vault your computer fills. It is built for putting one thing in and finding one thing back out, and it leaves the heavier work to the desktop app.
How things get in
There is no automatic capture on Android, and there cannot be: the system only lets the app you are looking at read the clipboard. So getting something into Relic is something you do on purpose, and there are three ways.
- The share sheet. In any app, share a link, a photo, a file or some text, and pick Relic. It lands in your vault.
- The Quick Settings tile. Copy something, pull down Quick Settings, tap Capture to Relic, and whatever is on your clipboard right then is saved.
- The plus button. The gold button at the bottom right writes a new item by hand, with attachments if you want them.
Capturing on Android walks through adding the tile and using each route, including the walkthrough the app can reopen for you from its settings.
What the app does
- Search everything. Words across an item, its title, its preview, its filename and its tags, plus
tag:and a date range. Titles, tags and screenshot text your computer worked out sync down, so you can search them from the phone even though the phone did not make them. - All and Vault. The same two lists as on a computer: everything, or the items you kept on purpose.
- Open an item to read it, look at the picture, or see the file. Tap to copy.
- Edit, keep, tag, share and delete, all from the item or its menu.
- Save to device puts an image or a file in your Downloads folder or your photo gallery, your choice.
- Pull down on the list to sync right now.
- On a tablet the screen splits: the list on the left, whatever you tapped on the right.
What it does not do
- It does not watch your clipboard. See above. Android does not allow it, from any app.
- It does not run the models. Naming items, tagging pictures and reading the text in screenshots all happen on your computer. The results sync to the phone; the work does not happen there.
- No mini picker and no keyboard shortcuts. Those belong to the desktop app.
- No dragging an item out into another app, and no paste stack.
Formatting and secrets
Relic on Android keeps one kind of formatting: HTML, which is what almost everything on a phone publishes. Copy styled text out of Chrome or Gmail, capture it with the tile, and pasting it back keeps the bold, the links and the colours. Things shared through the share sheet always arrive as plain text, whatever app sent them, because that is all the share sheet hands over.
Anything that looks like a key, a token or a card number is hidden behind dots in the list until you tap to reveal it. That is on out of the box.
Settings and appearance
Tap the gear at the top right for the settings sheet: the name this phone's captures carry, whether captures go straight to your Vault, where files are saved, your devices, your recovery kit, and the rest. Settings on your phone goes row by row.
Settings › Appearance follows your phone by default, so Relic turns dark when your phone does. You can pin it to dark or light instead.
