What a snippet is

A snippet is an ordinary Relic item with a short label on the front of it. Your address. The line you always write when you decline a meeting. A block of boilerplate. Anything you type again and again.

Type the label in the search box and the snippet goes straight to the top of the list, above everything the normal ranking would have shown you. Then press Enter to paste it.

The mini picker with the query semicolon welcome typed into it. One row is highlighted: a note called Welcome message, with a small pill reading snippet and an Enter key at its right. Two other rows sit below it, dimmer. Typing the trigger label puts the snippet at the top, ready for Enter.

Rows that are snippets carry a small snippet pill, so you can tell them apart in the list.

Making one

Open the composer
Press the gold plus at the top of the Relic window. Tick Save as snippet and the header changes to New snippet.
Give it a trigger label
The first box is labelled TRIGGER LABEL (E.G. ;WELCOME). This is what you will type to pull the snippet up, so keep it short and make it something you would never type by accident.
Write the text
The second box is labelled SNIPPET TEXT. Put whatever you want pasted in here. Add tags if you want, and tick Save to Vault so it never expires.
Press Create
The snippet is now an item like any other, carrying a snippet tag. Type its trigger label in either picker and it jumps to the top of the list.

The tick box explains itself: Save as snippet, and under it Type its trigger in the picker and it jumps to the top.

Using one

Open either picker and type the label. It works in the full window and in the mini picker, which is usually the one you want, because it opens at your text cursor and pastes without taking you out of what you are writing.

A leading ; or / is ignored on both sides, so a snippet called ;welcome comes up whether you type ;wel or just wel.
You do not have to finish the word. The start of the label is enough.
An exact match beats a partial one, and among partial matches the shortest label wins.
With the Vault scope on, only snippets you have kept come up.
While a date filter is on, snippets are not pushed to the top. Pinning one would contradict the dates you asked for.

Once you have a few, a Snippets chip appears under the search box with a count on it. Click it to see just those.

Turning something you already have into a snippet

Any text item can become one. Open it, scroll to the tick box near the bottom of the edit screen, and tick Save as snippet. Under it the app says Type its title in the picker and it jumps to the top. Press Save.

The item's title is its trigger label, so give it a title worth typing. Untick the box and press Save to turn it back into an ordinary item.

Under the covers a snippet is just an item with a snippet tag. You can add or remove that tag by hand in the TAGS box and it works the same way. See tags.
