Selecting rows
Most of the time one row is enough. When it is not, you can act on a handful at once: tag a week of receipts, keep everything from a trip, throw away a morning of copy and paste.
- Ctrl+click the rows you want
Hold Ctrl (Cmd on a Mac) and click each row. Each click adds it to the selection or takes it back out.
- Shift+click for a run of them
Click one row, then hold Shift and click another. Everything between the two is selected.
- Or press Ctrl+A for the lot
Ctrl+A selects every result currently loaded. It only works when the caret is not in the search box, where Ctrl+A still selects your typing.
- Pick an action from the bar
A bar appears above the list with the count and the things you can do: Copy, Keep, Tag, Delete and Clear.
The bar replaces the usual controls while a selection is live.
Press Esc to drop the selection. The window stays open. Press it again to close the window as usual. Changing the search or the filters clears the selection too, because a different set of results makes the old selection meaningless.
Right-clicking a row does not touch your selection, so you can right-click one item for its own menu while a selection is live.
The bar above the list
The bar starts with the count, like 4 selected, then the buttons. Five are always there: Copy, Keep, Tag, Delete and Clear. Two more appear when you have turned their feature on.
If the bar runs out of room in a narrow window, the buttons scroll sideways rather than spilling out of it.
What each button does
- Copy joins the selected text into one clipboard write, one item per line, in the order they appear on screen. It says Copied 4 items as one. Pictures and files cannot be joined into text, so they are left out and the toast counts them, like Copied 3 text items as one (1 skipped). If you picked nothing but pictures it says Only text items can merge
- Keep puts every selected item in your Vault: 4 promoted to Vault. Items already kept are skipped, and if they all were it says Already in your Vault.
- Tag opens a small box titled Tag 4 items with one field and an Apply button. One tag goes on every selected item: Tagged 4 items #work. The tag is also added to your list of tags, so it is there next time. See tags.
- Delete removes the lot. See delete and undo: if any of them are in your Vault, Relic asks first, and either way you get a few seconds to undo.
- Clear drops the selection without doing anything, the same as Esc.
- Stack appears when the paste stack is on. It queues the selection in screen order and says 4 items queued.
Combining several items into one paste
Copy always joins with line breaks. If you want to choose what goes between them, and to paste the result straight into the app you came from, turn this on:
With Settings › General › Multi-select to combine on, the bar grows a small chip and a Combine button. The chip shows what will go between the items: newline, space or comma. Click it to move to the next one.
Combine joins the selected text with that separator, closes the window, and pastes it into whatever you were typing in. Comma is the one to reach for when you are filling a field that wants a list. Pictures and files are left out here too, and a selection with no text in it says Only text items can combine
